Save My Soul – Amanda Hawkins

Hello All,

Sorry I have been m.i.a. for the past month just been super busy and finding it hard to find time to update this thing. But alas, here I am with new music!

This artists, from the one and only Denver, CO, has an absolutely incredible voice that reminds me of a darker Maria Carey mixed with Amy Winehouse. Not of my typical genre of listening, but she is great stuff that I believe you all will enjoy.

Plus this is one of the cooler lyric videos I have ever seen.

Unseen Things – Flashbulb Fires

Image

Denver band Flashbulb Fires have decided to forgo the album idea and release a series of singles, at least for the time being. I think this is a great way to keep fans interested and tuned in for new music as well as a way to get around the costs of recording an entire album at one time.

This single, Unseen Things, came out Aug 13 and is full of serene, dreamy, pop sounds that fill the ears with marvelous melodies. They are a band that is making huge headway in the Denver music scene and one to be on the lookout for as their popularity grows. So give it a listen and be sure to catch their next show 9/13 at Rooster & Moon here in Denver.

Call It Home – The Foreign Exchange

Image

For anybody who isn’t aware of who the Foreign Exchange is, ya’ll need to get listening ASAP. But for those of you that do, they just released their new single for their upcoming album, Love In Flying Colors which comes our 9/24. The single, Call It Home, has a funky drum beat and groovy bass line, as is the normal fashion for these guys. It’s good to hear Phonte’s voice again since it’s been a couple years since he has released any new music. The extra song at the end of the track is a B-side called Pity. Stoked for this new album.

Out Getting Ribs – Zoo Kid

Some of you might have heard of King Krule lately, well he originally went by the name of Zoo Kid and here is one of my favorites. The epitome of simplicity and all that is British.

Waitin’ Around To Die – Townes Van Zandt

Townes Van Zandt is one of favorite singer-songwriters of all time and a landmark in the classic country music scene. This also happens to be one of the most depressing songs ever written. Footage is from a 1975 documentary, Heartworn Highways, about the back-to-basics movement in country music happening in Austin and Nashville at the time.

Belong To The World – The Weeknd

The Weeknd is my favorite R&B artist and I listened to his mixtapes over and over before they were released by Universal. His incredible vocals and dark tales of night women and drugs just pull me in and I can’t stop listening. This song is one of the singles off his new album and the accompanying video is damn interesting. His new album, Kiss Land, comes out Sept 10 and he is doing a tour to support. Make sure you check it out because it will be insane. For those of you in Denver, he comes to the 1st Bank Center Sept 20. I’ll see you there!

Cause – Rodriguez

I finally saw Searching For Sugar Man and it is absolutely fantastic. The tale about this man, Rodriguez, and how he was one of the best songwriters of all time, but no one knew it outside of South Africa, blows my mind. Everyone needs to listen to this song and then check out every one of his other songs. Amazing. Image
